From the games kids play to the science they'll use
Every workshop is written by our own members, has a theory part and a hands-on part, and follows the Singapore primary school syllabus. Children learn by doing, in person, with student volunteers beside them.
The STEM x series
Each workshop pairs STEM with something children already love. The photos are from our own sessions.

How a workshop runs
Each in-person workshop runs for 1.5 to 3 hours and follows the same rhythm, so children always know what's coming next.
- Hello, STEM!Name tags, ice-breakers and what S, T, E and M stand for.
- Story timeThe STEMbots get into a pickle that only STEM can solve.
- Ground rulesBe kind, help your friends, join in.
- TheoryShort, picture-heavy explanations with quick games like Hangman and Kahoot.
- Hands-onBuild, test and play: rockets, terrariums, board games.
- ReflectWhat did we learn? Then the fun continues in STEMulate Academy.
STEM x Games in detail
Three workshops built on Minecraft, Monopoly and Among Us. These are the real slides our volunteers teach from: each opens full screen, and the arrow keys flip through it.
Lesson by lesson
What each one covers, its slides, what children will be able to do and the hands-on activities.
Minecraft Masterminds
One hot summer afternoon, Sophia's garden starts to change. Children explore Minecraft biomes to learn how matter and water cycle, then measure blocks to build better.
Children will be able to…
- Name the three states of matter and how water changes between them
- Explain where rain comes from: evaporation, condensation, precipitation
- Compare land, water and mixed ecosystems
- Find area with length × width, and by splitting odd shapes into rectangles
- Work out the volume of cubes and cuboids
Hands-on activities
- Bottle terrariumBuild a sealed mini ecosystem for a forest, desert or swamp biome, and see the water cycle keep it alive.
- Minecraft paper-craftFold 3D blocks from nets, then calculate their volumes.
Mission Millionaire
What would you buy with a million dollars? Children learn to handle money like a property tycoon, then play Monopoly musical chairs across Singapore's MRT lines.
Children will be able to…
- Convert between dollars and cents
- Add and subtract money, lining up the decimal points
- Add 9% GST to a price
- Work out discounts and sale prices with percentages
- Explain how a bank pays interest on savings
Hands-on activities
- Monopoly musical chairsEach chair is an MRT-stop property. When the music stops, decide whether to buy, add GST, apply discounts and pay rent.
- SG Budget gameMake spending choices in groups and keep the budget balanced.
Space Busters
The Skeld is drifting towards the Sun! Children learn how energy and forces move a spaceship, launch balloon rockets, then crack BODMAS tasks to find the impostor.
Children will be able to…
- Name kinetic, potential, light, sound and heat energy, with everyday examples
- Trace how energy changes form in a bouncing ball and a light bulb
- Describe gravity, friction, magnetic and spring forces
- Explain thrust, drag and weight on a rocket
- Solve mixed calculations in BODMAS order
Hands-on activities
- Two-stage balloon rocketThread balloons onto a string, release both nozzles and watch thrust beat drag.
- Among Us task huntTurn the room into the Skeld. Each crew task is a maths problem; solve them all to find the impostor.
Mapped to the school syllabus
Every topic is tagged to the primary science themes and maths strands children meet in school. The online lessons in STEMulate Academy cover the same topics.
- 9video lessons
- 9quizzes
- 5games
- 3intro stories
- 3exit cards
Keep exploring at home
